The National Communications Authority (NCA) has shut down four (4) Radio Stations in Bawku, in the Upper East Region.
The affected stations are Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM.
In a statement released on February 24, the NCA noted that their decision was based on recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council and guidance from the Ministry of National Security.
According to the Upper East Regional Security Council and the Ministry of National Security, operations of the Radio Stations have played a role in the never ending Bawku citing remarks from presenters and panelists as the main factor.
The NCA, therefore noted that, invoking its powers under Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), justified the shutdown as a necessary step for national security and public interest adding that the Authority is committed to collaborating with relevant stakeholders and urged all parties involved to adhere strictly to the principles and regulations governing the communications industry.
