Dr. Abdul Karim Hakim, a University of Ghana lecturer at the Theatre Arts Department, has criticized the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, claiming it has compromised the quality of education in Ghana.
He argues that the policy’s focus on exam preparation over comprehensive learning leaves students ill-prepared for university.
His comments come as lecturers campaign to raise awareness about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto, which proposes a review of the Free SHS policy. Dr. Hakim praised the NDC’s proposal for education reform, aligning with their stance.
Speaking to Univers News, Dr. Hakim called for a complete overhaul of the Free SHS policy, commending former President Mahama’s promise to review it.
He stressed the need to reassess the policy’s implementation, curriculum, and address resource shortages affecting the education system.
