The Government of Ghana on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 received 249,600 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Government of the United Kingdom for the continuation of our Covid-19 national vaccination programme.

The donation is part of a broader pledge by the UK Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson at the G7 meeting in June, in which the UK government will share 100 million jabs with the rest of the world, of which 80% will go through COVAX.

Addressing the media at the Kotoka International Airport, the Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Tina Mensah said the donation comes at a time when the government of Ghana has dedicated a lot of resources through the efforts of the Minister for health to manage the Covid-19 pandemic, at the same time addressing the general health needs of the population.

She said the donation is a further demonstration of the partnership between the UK government and the rest of the world, of which Ghana is part, and commended the UK Government, UNICEF, WHO and other stakeholders for their continuous support.
