As part of Ghana and the British long-standing bilateral relationship, the Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye has hosted the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency, Iain Walker at his office in Accra.

The discussion centered on diverse areas such as economy, housing, drainage, coastal protection, mortgage system and business investment in Ghana.

Welcoming the High Commissioner, Hon. Asenso-Boakye expressed gratitude to him for the courtesy call and said the two countries share bilateral interests and that there is the need for further collaborations to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The Minister outlined the provision of mass affordable housing, drainage systems and coastal protection as key projects of the Ministry that need collaboration.

He explained that successive governments have played their part in the area of affordable housing provision but current demands require new strategies to meet the requests of developers by providing enabling environment for them so that they can build more houses and sell to Ghanaians at an affordable rate.

On drainage and coastal protection, the Minister said although they are capital intensive, the government is committed to ensuring that solutions are found to the issues. He, therefore, called for investment in the areas of housing, drainage and coastal protection.

His Excellency Walker congratulated the Minister on his appointment and said the British Government will continue to collaborate and support the Ministry to achieve its agenda.
