Nigerian government’s request to the UK to allow its former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu complete his prison sentence in Nigeria has been turned down.
The former lawmaker who is serving nine years and eight months sentence in the UK, was found guilty in 2023 of plotting to harvest the kidney of a young man, a high-profile organ-trafficking case that drew international attention.
According to sources, the UK government was concerned that Nigeria could not offer guarantees that Ekweremadu would continue his prison sentence after being deported.
