The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has warned of a nationwide strike if the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) fails to follow through on directives from the National Labour Commission (NLC).
GAUA stated that on Monday, June 9, the NLC ordered GTEC to restore withdrawn or reduced allowances for certain members, address imbalances in the Single Spine Salary Structure, and rescind a directive affecting administrative office appointments.
Despite this directive, the Association says no meaningful action has been taken. GAUA is demanding full compliance by the end of the month or it will mobilize for industrial action.
In a related development, the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has also issued a seven-day ultimatum to GTEC, opposing a policy that requires traditional public universities to install representatives from the rival TEWU-TUC on their Governing Councils.
