The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has raised concern over a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the Legon campus, urging members of the university community to exercise heightened caution in response to a rise in both suspected and confirmed infections.

In a notice dated June 23, 2025, the Directorate confirmed a noticeable uptick in cases and warned that the situation, if not managed carefully, could escalate into a wider outbreak.

As a precautionary measure, the university has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, including screening and triage systems at its health facilities.

Students, staff, and visitors have been advised to adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines.

These include the mandatory wearing of face masks in enclosed or crowded areas, frequent handwashing or use of alcohol-based sanitisers, maintaining at least a one-metre physical distance from others, and ensuring good ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and residential facilities.

The Directorate also urged individuals to avoid large gatherings wherever possible and to stay home if they develop flu-like symptoms. Early reporting and medical attention, it said, remain key in limiting the spread of the virus.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates as necessary,” the statement noted, emphasizing the university’s commitment to protecting public health amid global efforts to contain emerging variants of the virus.

Authorities at the University of Ghana are appealing to the campus population to cooperate fully with health personnel and comply with all COVID-19 protocols.

Persons experiencing symptoms or seeking further information have been advised to contact the University Hospital at Legon for assistance.
