Ghana’s university landscape has been thrown into chaos as senior staff declare an indefinite strike, effective today, over government’s failure to honor a six-month-old agreement.
The Senior Staff Association of Ghana, in collaboration with two other unions, announced the industrial action, instructing members to stay home until their demands are met.
National Chairman, George Ansong, described the strike as a “last resort” following failed dialogue with both current and previous governments, who they accuse of neglecting their promises to improve conditions of service.
“The decision to embark on an indefinite strike action was made with deep regret but unwavering resolve,” Mr. Ansong said, highlighting that countless efforts to engage with the government had been met with “persistent inaction, neglect, and blatant failure” to honor the agreement.
