The National Communication Authority (NCA) will on Wednesday May 31, 2023 deactivate all unregistered SIM cards.
This directive is in line with government’s digitalization agenda under the ministry of communication and digitalization.
The SIM card re-registration exercise started on October 1, 2021.
According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), the exercise is to help build and develop a SIM database with integrity to curb fraudulent activities and secure SIM card-based transactions.
The exercise will also help to determine the accurate number of valid SIM cards on the various telecommunication networks in the country.
With several extended deadlines, government will finally disconnect individuals who have failed to complete the registration process since 2021.
The re-registration process is supposed to be done with only the Ghana card. Meanwhile some individuals claim they are yet to get the Ghana card.
But on March 29, 2023 the National Identification Authority (NIA) indicated it has printed the backlog of 541,529 Ghana Cards in its database.
The printed cards were subsequently dispatched to NIA’s Regional and District Offices nationwide to be distributed to various individuals.
