Two pupils have tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries after a school bus carrying 62 students from Ben Konadu SDA Basic School crashed on the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred on the Aseseeso stretch of the road as the bus, which was transporting the children on an excursion to Akosombo, lost control while descending a hill. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted before landing on its side.
Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey, who happened to be passing by at the time, immediately joined the rescue efforts and helped transport some of the injured students to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Police, and the Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene to rescue trapped victims and assess the extent of casualties.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident while medical teams attend to the injured.
