Police in the Upper West Region have dealt a major blow to drug trafficking, arresting multiple suspects and confiscating a substantial quantity of suspected narcotics in a series of coordinated operations.

Over the past four weeks, police targeted strategic locations, including Eremon in the Lawra District, Nadowli Barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charke and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, Hamile in the Lambussie District, and Funsi in the Wa East District.

The raids led to the recovery of 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight assorted consignments of substances believed to be Indian hemp.

“Over the past four weeks, the Command has recorded a series of narcotic seizures across multiple districts. The seizures comprised 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and 8 other assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp,” stated DCOP Francis Yiribaare, Upper West Regional Police Commander.

He added that on April 1, 2026, officers manning the Wa-Loho barrier intercepted a Royal VVIP bus en route from Wa to Jirapa, uncovering 51 compressed slabs. Three individuals—Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee—were arrested in connection with this seizure.

Two days later, a Toyota Corolla was stopped at Eremon in the Lawra District, where patrol officers recovered 140 compressed slabs. Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame were taken into custody over this incident.

“In most cases, the substances were northbound toward Hamile for delivery,” DCOP Yiribaare explained. He confirmed that the suspects are undergoing investigations and that the vehicles involved have been impounded.

The police commander also issued a warning to transport operators, saying, “We caution transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used to courier illicit drugs, as they risk forfeiture and prosecution.”

The Upper West Regional Police Command assured residents of its unwavering commitment to tackling drug-related crime and encouraged anyone with relevant information to cooperate with authorities to ensure public safety and security across the region.
