The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, concluded her two-day tour of the Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) training centres in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. During her visit, she inspected various training centres including Dansoman CIC, Dansoman 6 School, Wesley Grammar School, Weija Model Basic School, and New Gbawe (Cluster of Schools).

During her interactions with the girls, she emphasized the importance of technology skills in today’s job market and highlighted the diverse training modules offered. She encouraged the participants to work hard and seek knowledge by asking questions whenever they faced difficulties.

“Everything in the world is changing, so every profession and every work that you do requires some level of IT knowledge to do it well. All the lessons being taught are preparing you for the working world,” she stated.

The Minister expressed her excitement about the upcoming regional competition, which will begin this weekend, followed by the mentorship program on Tuesday, and the climax events on Wednesday, July 9 and 10.

The Greater Accra Girls-In-ICT program will be one of the most keenly contested. The girls have demonstrated extreme skill after only two days of training. They’re confident and show remarkable problem-solving skills,” she said. “I’m glad they’re receiving this foundation early in life, which will benefit them in the future.”

Additionally, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful shared plans to establish a Girls-In-ICT Trust. This trust will be responsible for writing project proposals to donors to support and sustain the program.

The trust will include trustees from both government and private sectors, aiming to expand the program beyond the current 3,000 to 4,000 students trained annually to up to 10,000 students across the country.
