The Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), Todd Robinson, and the US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, led a delegation of officials from INL, among others, to the Head Office of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
The visit comes in the wake of the commendable work the Office has done in recent times.
The Economic and Organized Crime Office is being recognized for its impressive work done over the past years in fighting financial crimes especially with the recent seizure of stolen luxury vehicles from the USA.
During the meeting, Ambassador Palmer took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the US government in helping Ghana to fight against financial crimes through capacity building and equipping institutions with the necessary tools.
She also took the opportunity to introduce the host secretary of INL in the country on a duty tour.
The Assistant Secretary, INL Todd Robinson acknowledged the challenges the office faced and reaffirmed their resolve to support the capacity building and logistical needs of the office.
He further informed the meeting that the Office would be given new equipment and asset recovery tools to aid their work.
He added that there are trainings lined up for investigators at the Regional Training Center specifically for EOCO officers.
In response, the Executive Director of EOCO, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah was elated that the work of EOCO was being recognized worldwide.
She used the opportunity to thank the US government for its immense support to the Office over the years.
She stated that the Office is poised to do what it is mandated to do.
The Executive Director also expressed her gratitude to the US government for the lined-up training for EOCO officers.
According to her, capacity building gives officers an upper hand in the fight against financial crimes.
She added that if officers were trained adequately, it would affect the intelligence and evidence that would be gathered and would also lead to successful prosecution.
