According to reports from the United States, the hearing involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been adjourned to April 27, 2026. Mr. Ofori-Atta appeared before a United States immigration court in Virginia on January 20, 2026, regarding his immigration status.
He was recently detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to the revocation of his visitor visa, which allegedly rendered his stay in the country unlawful.
The matter was heard at the Annandale Immigration Court before Immigration Judge David Gardey, focusing on bond redetermination and preliminary review.
During the hearing, his lawyers requested the case be heard in camera, which was approved by the judge.
Judge Gardey granted the request, ordering the hearings to be conducted privately and directing non-parties observing via Webex to exit the session.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was represented by his legal team, including Christopher Chaisson of Whiteford Taylor & Preston and Kwao Amaghashi, his long-time immigration lawyer.
In Ghana, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has charged the former Minister with over 70 counts related to allegations of corruption and corruption-related offenses, including issues arising from the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited contract and other procurement matters.
