Ramon Abass popularly known as Hushpuppi has been sentenced by a United States Central District Court in California.
However, he is expected to spend 9 years in jail since he has already spent two years thus far.
He was detained by Dubai authorities in the United Arab Emirates in June 2020 as a result of a complex fraud scheme that defrauded individuals in the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other countries of their money.
Other 11 individuals were also arrested before his extradition to the United States to be handed over to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation where he was charged with fraud and money laundering.
He pleaded guilty in July 2021 to the multi-million charges against him by the US government.
He then entered a plea deal with the US government in hopes of receiving a lesser sentence.
He was stated to have been on his best behaviour while in prison, scoring highly on cleanliness tasks, and to have been very cooperative with the police during the inquiry that followed his arrest.
