The campaign team for presidential hopeful Hon. Ken Agyapong has launched a scathing attack on the party leadership, accusing them of giving former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia an unfair advantage in the upcoming presidential primary.
In a strongly worded statement released by Kwasi Kwarteng Esq, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign, the team alleged that the party’s official social media handles were used exclusively to stream Dr Bawumia’s nomination filing, a move they described as a “betrayal of the very unity our national leadership claims to preach”.
“The use of the official party’s social media handles to stream only DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal of the very unity our national leadership claims to preach,” the statement read. “It is yet another example of the deliberate and consistent attempts by party leaders to give him an undue advantage in this primary, just as they did in the previous one.”
The campaign team opined that what the party did can best be described as “unfortunate acts” which contributed to the poor performance of the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
The statement further pointed to what they called the party’s “worst results in our party’s history” under Dr Bawumia’s watch, citing a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and a significant loss of support from the Zongo communities.
“Under his watch, we recorded the worst results in our party’s history,” the statement said.
The campaign team expressed frustration that instead of prioritising the rebuilding of a “stronger, united party”, leadership continues to “impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses”.
The statement also accused the leadership of “shamelessly projecting him as the ‘establishment choice’ by giving him undue advantages and platforms.”
It emphasised that the party’s grassroots members “would not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual.”

UNITY CANNOT BE ACHIEVED WHEN OFFICIAL PARTY HANDLES ARE REDUCED TO CAMPAIGN TOOLS FOR DR. BAWUMIA.
The use of the official party’s social media handles to stream only DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal of the very unity our national leadership claims to preach. It is yet another example of the deliberate and consistent attempts by party leaders to give him an undue advantage in this primary, just as they did in the previous one.
These unfortunate acts were among the reasons for our poor performance in past elections. Yet, clearly, we seem not to have learnt any lessons. Under his watch, we recorded the worst results in our party’s history: a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and virtually no support from the Zongo communities.
At such a time, the priority should be rebuilding a stronger, united party to restore hope and confidence. Instead, leadership continues to impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses, shamelessly projecting him as the “establishment choice” by giving him undue advantages and platforms.
If this continues, leadership should not be surprised when other candidates begin to take their destiny into their own hands. The grassroots would not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual.
Never!
