The National Chairman of the National Media Commission, Professor Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, has condemned the attack by NPP thugs on Accra-based United Television on a live programme.
Speaking with Kaakyire Kwame Asare Addai-Mununkum, Okyeame Radio Adekyee Mu Nsem host, Mr. Ayeboafo, described the incident as a very sad one. To him, no one can suppress someone’s opinion by intimidation in this democratic dispensation; fighting people with divergent views doesn’t alter anything.
“We should know that in democracy, not every statement will suit your preference and that does not mean you should beat your opponent, when we do that we shall understand ourselves and learn from our mistakes for progression.” Prof. Boadu Ayeboafo noted
Stephen Kingsley Bennieh, a legal practitioner, also condemned the act, revealing that there is no law in Ghana’s constitution that prohibits media practitioners (journalists) from engaging in politics except chiefs, and thus called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators because it is unfortunate, unlawful, and illegal, and thus should not be tolerated.
