There is an urgent need to protect Ghanaian borders against possible Jihadist attacks as neighbouring Burkina Faso residents are fleeing their communities to seek refuge in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.
Over 796 migrants fled Burkina Faso over the weekend and are in communities of the Sissala West District according to NADMO. Some of the affected communities include Fielmuo, Nemoro, Tiwii, Fatchu, Puzene, Buo and Chetu.
This is a result of alleged Jihadists who invaded Jafenli, a community of Buro near Burkina Faso on Sunday, December 4, 2022, and allegedly subjected church worshipers to torture.
Credible information available to myrepubliconline.com indicates that the suspected Jihadists forced teachers out of the school campus and proceeded to the market square.
They are said to have introduced the residents to a particular style of Islamic Worship and promised to be back if they fail to adhere.
The next day, the alleged Jihadists went to another community identified as Nyaburo near Burkina Faso and damaged network service provider towers.
The Sissala West District Assembly led by the Chief Executive and Chairperson of the District Security Council (DISEC) Mad. Batong-Hor Aisha visited the communities on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, and alluded majority of the migrants are women and children.
The assembly pledged to provide them with some foodstuffs and shelter on humanitarian grounds said, the DCE.
