A Basic school teacher at Alavanyo Wudidi EP Primary school in the Volta Region has been compensated with GHC 500 and two bottles of whiskey after being assaulted by a thug hired by a pupil’s guardian.
According to sources, though the teacher was sanctioned by the pupil’s grandmother to punish their ward for not submitting his homework, the pupil’s grandfather unhappy about the incident, hired one Delase to assault the teacher.
Delase was arrested and is said to have been later released to settle the case out of court.
After he was summoned before the Chief and elders of Wudidi, Delase admitted wrongdoing, apologized and made to compensate the victim with the money to settle his medical bills, the two bottles of whiskey, and a letter guaranteeing the teacher’s safety and good behaviour.
Delase was also asked to provide a ram, two bottles of Castle Bridge and a keg of palm wine as punishment for traditional prayers for disgracing the community.
The accused was also made to write a letter of apology to the Hohoe Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service.
The law must take its course. Settling such matters out of court must not be encouraged.
