Veep assembles emergency GAF council meeting

The Vice-President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has met with members of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Council to discuss developments following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who also serves as Chairperson of the GAF Council, expressed solidarity with the families affected by the military helicopter crash in Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, involved high-ranking government officials and military personnel. The victims were en route to a mining event when the tragedy struck.

As part of the Council’s response, the Vice-President, together with other council members and government officials, visited the family of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, to offer condolences and support.

The Council extended its heartfelt sympathies to all bereaved families, acknowledging the national grief caused by the loss.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for strength, comfort, and peace during this period of national mourning,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.

The Ghana Armed Forces Council also assured the nation of its commitment to continuing its vital work even as it mourns the loss of these esteemed individuals.

The eight victims are, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and MP for Tamale Central

Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
