Vice President, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Chief Fire Officer, (CFO) Julius A. Kuunuor visited the Madina market on Friday, April 19, 2024, to evaluate the aftermath of last week's fire outbreak that affected section of the market.

The Contractor for the reconstruction project was introduced. The Vice President pledged government support for reconstruction efforts, promising to rebuild 120 stores and 78 small shops, while affected traders will receive financial assistance to revive their businesses.

CFO Kuunuor seized the opportunity to emphasize the need for the traders to avoid illegal electrical connections, a common cause of market fires, and assured them of the Ghana National Fire Service’s (GNFS’s) readiness to assist them in such fire situations.

Last week’s unfortunate fire at the Madina market took the swift intervention of the GNFS to contain it from further damage. Meanwhile, an investigation into the fire’s cause has since commenced, underscoring the commitment to preventing future incidents.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister designate, MCE for Madina, NADMO Director General, Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander as well as other dignitaries were present at the function.
