The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has alleged that the government has seized vehicles belonging to the wives of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

According to Mr. Yandoh, the seizure of the vehicles is the latest challenge confronting the NPP regional chairman, who is currently facing criminal charges related to alleged illegal mining operations and the unauthorized allocation of mineral rights at Samreboi in the Western Region.

Speaking in an interview with host Ebenezer Yaw Jonah on Abusua Adwenekyere on Abusua 96.5 FM, Mr. Yandoh said the development has caused distress for Wontumi’s family.

“Now another problem has emerged. Chairman Wontumi has two wives, and all their cars have been seized,” he stated.

“Government has seized Chairman Wontumi’s wives’ cars as if they want them to walk simply because they are married to him.”

When asked by the host whether the ownership documents of the vehicles were in Chairman Wontumi’s name, Yandoh responded, “I don’t know. All those cars have been taken away from them. But why? Is it because they are married to Chairman Wontumi?”

Meanwhile, there’s no clear report that suggest the ongoing confiscations form part of investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) into alleged economic and organised crime offences connected to the NPP regional chairman.

EOCO is yet to comment on the matter.

However, Chairman Wontumi previously disclosed in an interview that EOCO had already confiscated about 15 of his luxury vehicles, including brands such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Toyota Land Cruiser.

He maintained that all the vehicles were legitimately purchased from a licensed car dealer and that the necessary import and registration duties had been fully paid.

The case involving Chairman Wontumi continues to attract significant public interest, given his political influence in the Ashanti Region and his outspoken defense of the NPP government.
