A man in his late twenties miraculously survived the Saturday morning flood by swimming to safety in the Odawna River at Circle, Accra.
Witnesses captured the dramatic rescue, where the young man clung to grass before being urged to swim to safety.
Passers-by who witnessed the incident saw the young man struggling against the strong current.
Republic Press staff who was at the scene captured the dramatic event live on video.
In the footage, the young man is seen clinging to a piece of grass being carried away by the floodwaters.
As he passed under the Circle Odawna bridge, onlookers encouraged him to release the grass and swim to the side, as the current was dangerously strong.
Heeding their advice, he swam to the riverbank, where bystanders rescued him, pulling him out of the Odawna River.
The heavy rains also caused significant flooding and traffic disruptions across Accra, impacting areas like Teshie and major routes including the Kaneshie to Mallam stretch of the Kasoa Highway.
