Vodafone Ghana rebrands to Telecel

Vodafone Ghana has announced it will rebrand to telecel in the coming days.

Vodafone Ghana has announced it will rebrand to telecel in the coming days.

This announcement comes after Vodafone Group Plc (Vodafone) completed the sale of its 70% shareholding in Vodafone Ghana (GTCL) to Telecel Group.

In February last year, the Chief Executive of Vodafone said, “The sale of Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Group is a further step in simplifying Vodafone’s African portfolio. Since entering the market in 2008, Vodafone has helped to develop Ghana’s critical network infrastructure supporting customers, businesses and communities.”

The CEO also mentioned that, the transaction received regulatory approval and agreement from the Government of Ghana which will retain its 30% minority shareholding in GTCL but in November 2023, former minority leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu demanded clarity on the alleged sale of that government of Ghana’s 30% shares.

Responding to the former minority leader, Minister for communication and digitilisation, Ursula Owusu clarified that, government has no plans of selling its shares.
