MPs in Volta are threatening an action against two construction companies, mandated to work on roads in the Volta Region under government’s flagship project, the Big Push.

The MPs while on a tour of ongoing road projects in the region on Monday, cited Greenhouse International Developers Ghana and the China Railway Group for non-performance and threatened to have their contracts terminated.

MP for Ho West and Chairman of the Volta MPs Caucus, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah told the media on Monday that, Greenhouse International Developers Ghana, a company working on the 53.3km Hohoe-Have stretch of the Eastern corridor road has been slow and risks delaying the project despite moving to site early last year.

On the Ho to Tokor road, the MPs were left unimpressed with China Railway Group, who are yet to move to site.

The company is contracted to undertake rehabilitation works on the Ho Airport junction to Kpetoe portion of the road.

“We have concern with two of the contractors, they are the Greenhouse construction, we noticed that they are not performing at all, and then China Railway, they are not at site at all; these two we have concern and we will report that to the Minister, if it means giving it to another person to do, we will do that,” the Ho West MP said.

“We don’t want the delay, they have given us 24-months and within that period we want all the projects in the Volta region completed,” he added.

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu on his part, urged the contractors to ensure the projects are delivered according to specifications.

He further urged them to organize regular site meetings and provide timely updates to stakeholders to ensure timely completion of the projects.

The team also inspected work on the Kpeve to To Kpalime and the Anyriawase to Ho roads.

Other places visited include the ongoing sea defense project site in Salakope-Amutinu and the site Keta Port project where work on the administrative structures are currently underway.
