Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has hinted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will demand for an extension in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
This according to him is as a result of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) inability to register some persons in some registration centres in his constituency on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
The exercise, which began yesterday, May 7, encountered numerous set backs in some of the centres due to different reasons.
Meanwhile, taking to social media, Mr. Okudzeto urged the EC to ensure smooth running of the process in subsequent days.
“Yesterday, the EC failed to register a single person at its Ayiwata Registration Centre in my beloved constituency due to what officials claim might have been caused by faulty equipment and connectivity challenges.
“After spending the entire day in the beautiful village of Ayiwata, I observed that the EC’s poor response rate made it impossible to have the issues resolved compelling more than a hundred people who showed up to be registered to return without success.
“The EC’s District Office in Battor was also unable to register for almost 8 hours after registration was expected to commence at 7am.”
He added that “May I serve notice to the EC that we shall be demanding additional days to compensate for every disastrous showing by the EC.”
On the other hand, Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has promised that the commission will do its best to make the registration process smoothly from Wednesday, May 8.
