Some residents of Axim-Bewire in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region have refused to heed to warning from the Fisheries Commission against eating the dolphins and various other fish species washed up at the beach.

Some fishmongers were captured dressing some of the dead dolphins to be sold at the market for consumption.

According to report, the fishmongers said they are ready to release dressed dolphins to the regulators but would need a refund of over GH5,000 spent in purchasing the dead fish.โ€

The Fisheries Commission on the other hand said, they have been able to retrieve about 30 of the 80 whales for burial.

The Commission’s investigation indicated that the dead whales washed ashore on parts of Ghanaโ€™s coast shows that stress caused the mammals death.
