A fire outbreak on the evening of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, caused extensive damage to parts of Maaha Beach Resort and the adjacent Vision Beach Resort, destroying a total of 33 rooms across the two facilities.

According to the Ellembelle District Fire Commander, D O II Mark Hamilton, the blaze began around 7:00 p.m. at Vision Beach Resort and rapidly spread to Maaha Beach Resort, affecting major portions of its beachfront infrastructure, including guest rooms near the main pool area.

In an interview, D O II Hamilton confirmed that 18 rooms at Maaha Beach Resort and 15 rooms at Vision Beach Resort were destroyed by the fire.

He stated that the incident was brought under control by 10:00 p.m., and no injuries or casualties were reported.

“For Maaha Beach, 18 rooms were affected. For Vision Resort, 15 rooms were affected. There were no casualties.

The rooms that were affected had no occupants. Maaha is operational,” he noted.

Responding to public speculation about delays in emergency response, particularly claims that a fire tender from Ghana Gas failed to intervene due to chemical limitations, DO2 Hamilton clarified the timeline of events and the firefighting response.

“The call was placed at 7:59 p.m., and we arrived at the scene by 8:04 p.m. There was no issue with the Ghana Gas fire tender. It was, in fact, the first unit to arrive on site within five minutes,” he said.

He added that a second fire engine was later dispatched from a nearby station to reinforce the operation, resulting in two fire tenders being deployed to manage the situation.

Firefighters are expected to conduct a full post-incident investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze and to assess the structural and safety conditions at both resorts.

Located in the Western Region’s Ellembelle District, Maaha Beach Resort is a well-known hospitality facility frequented by both local and international tourists. The fire incident occurred during active business hours but reportedly at a time when the affected rooms were unoccupied.

An eyewitness at the scene, described how the fire originated from Vision Beach Resort and spread toward Maaha Beach Resort.

“The fire didn’t start from our end but from Vision Beach. It started from their kitchen and moved through their front desk area before reaching Maaha. A fire tender from Ghana Gas was even passing when the fire began, but they said they couldn’t intervene because of the chemicals they use,” the eyewitness claimed.

The witness added that additional assistance was sought through the intervention of local contacts, including a personal assistant to the area’s Member of Parliament, who helped mobilize firefighting support from Axim and other nearby stations.
