The Member of Parliament for Jomoro constituency, Hon. Dorcas Afo-Toffey, has donated building materials to six basic schools for renovation.

The schools are Gyegyekro Basic School, Cocoa Town Basic School, Alenrezule Basic, Tikobo Number 2 basic school, Anlomatuope Basic School and Mpaesem basic school and Elubo Basic School.

At Mpaesem Basic School, the MP for Jomoro renovated a four-classroom unit block by raising the block, plastering, and roofing the whole school and adding a donation of Ghc10,000 towards the completion of the rest of the project.

Hon. Dorcas Afo-Toffey was saddened by the situation at Elubo Basic School overcrowding, where one classroom could house over 100 pupils. Therefore, to assist the school in decongesting the situation, the MP donated sand, roofing sheets, and an undisclosed amount for the completion of two uncompleted classroom blocks in the area.

In her visit to Tikobo Number 2 Basic School, the building was wretched because the school infrastructure had not been painted for the past 20 years; thus, she got both the Primary and Junior High School blocks painted. In addition, metal poles were erected for both the Football pitch and the Volleyball court.

The Alenzule Basic School was another big challenge because the students study at the mercy of the weather since the school was part of the schools under trees.

In order to provide a proper environment for teaching and learning, the community decided to put up their own building from primary one to six, but due to a lack of funds, the project was halted.

To this end, Hon. Dorcas Afo-Toffey extended the water supply to the school and gave them money to complete the project since there was no water in the school for the construction.

In New Ankasa M/A Primary School, they had two classrooms for the nursery department and an office for teachers, but they had not been plastered; therefore, the MP donated bags of cement, a trio of sand, and roofing sheets for the commencement of the project.

Another horrible situation was curbed at Gyegyekrom Basic School. The school building was mud with no plaster, which the residents and the school authorities say “was an eye-sore and not conducive for teaching and learning.” Thus, the MP bought four packets of roofing sheets and 40 bags of cement to complete the project to befit its modern status.

Dorcas Afo-Toffey’s gesture took her to Krono 2 Basic School to extend water from the town to the school since the children walk for several kilometers to fetch water because the school, for a long time, didn’t have access to potable water.

The MP, who considers education a priority in her constituency, said she is committed to supporting the process of teaching and learning to make Jomoro the best place to study.
