A special team from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) headquarters in Accra in a swift and coordinated operation in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, conducted a unannounced raid in Efiekuma, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed suspected drug dens in the area, leading to the arrest of several individuals believed to be involved in the trafficking and abuse of illegal substances. Quantities of illicit drugs, including suspected narcotics, were seized during the operation.
The raid forms part of NACOC’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks and the rising abuse of narcotics, particularly in urban and semi-urban communities across the country.
Authorities say the exercise is also in response to increasing concerns from residents and local leaders over suspected criminal activities linked to drug use in the area.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source within the Commission confirmed that preliminary investigations have commenced and those arrested are assisting with further enquiries. The exact quantity and type of substances seized are yet to be disclosed.
Officials have assured the public that such operations will continue as part of a broader national strategy to combat the drug menace and ensure community safety.
Residents of Efiekuma have welcomed the development, expressing hope that it will help restore peace and security in the area.
The Narcotics Control Commission is urging the public to volunteer information on drug-related activities to support the national fight against narcotics.
