The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared null and void the Amenfi Central Parliamentary Primary held on May 13, 2023.
The decision by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) follows a meeting held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
The Sekondi High Court placed a restraining order on the elected PC, Joana Cudjoe Gyan after the court granted an interlocutory injunction at the request of five NDC members in the constituency led by Gyedu Frimpong, who filed a suit challenging Mrs Cudjoe’s victory in the primaries.
They alleged that Joana Cudjoe Gyan used “fake and unqualified documents” to contest the party’s primary that saw her defeat incumbent MP, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah.
The court presided over by Justice G. K Gyan-Kontoh also restrained the NDC from allowing Joana Cudjoe Gyan to be held out, dealt with in any way, recognized as the duly elected NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency until the final determination of the matter.
In a statement signed by Fifi Kwetey dated September 4, the party’s general secretary, the reliefs (c), (d) and (e) of the plaintiffs’ action, they seek from the court the annulment of the parliamentary primaries election result and an order to rerun same.
Subsequently, the party has set Sunday, September 8, 2024, to hold a rerun of the primaries in the constituency.
Prior to that, fresh nominations would be opened on Friday, September 6.
The statement further indicated that nomination forms can be picked from the office of the deputy general secretary in charge of administration and finance.
