The Ghana Police Service is investigating a violent armed robbery that occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at a gold buying shop in Teleku Bokazo, resulting in the death of one suspected robber and serious injuries to two shop attendants.
The incident came to the attention of police at approximately 5:30 p.m. following a distress call from Hon. Francis Awuah, the Assemblyman for the Anwiah and Teleku Bokazo communities. He reported an ongoing robbery at the local gold trading center.
Police patrol teams immediately responded and proceeded to the crime scene. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the suspects—believed to be six men armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and machetes—had fled the scene and were heading in the direction of the nearby Salman community.
In response, police launched a bush pursuit of the suspects. During the operation, the robbers opened fire upon sighting the police officers, who returned fire. One of the suspects, later identified as 34-year-old Abdul Rahman, was critically injured during the exchange.
Before succumbing to his injuries, Rahman revealed the name of another accomplice, Mohammed, and indicated the involvement of additional suspects.
Rahman was transported to St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Eikwe but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation.
Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the attackers stormed the gold shop, shooting and attacking the attendants with machetes.
The two victims, identified as 29-year-old Samuel Appiah and 45-year-old Kwamena Nketiah, were severely wounded and rushed to St. Martin De Porres Hospital for treatment.
Appiah sustained a deep cutlass wound to the right thigh, while Nketiah was shot in the right leg and later taken into surgery. Both are reportedly in stable condition and responding to treatment.
According to the victims, the robbers charged into the shop wielding weapons and attacking them without warning. They could not confirm whether the intruders succeeded in stealing any gold or cash.
During a search of the surrounding area, police retrieved fifteen live rounds of AK-47 ammunition believed to belong to the fleeing assailants. Due to poor visibility, officers will return to the scene on Friday, August 1, to continue with their investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and maintain safety in the area. GPS have called on residents to provide any information that may aid in the investigation.
