The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested two men suspected of carrying out a robbery and extortion operation in Wangarakrom, near Tarkwa, in the Western Region.

The suspects, Kwame Mumuni and Awal Benjamin, were picked up on March 31, 2025, following intelligence-led police efforts.

Officers retrieved several items believed to have been used in their criminal activities, including a red unregistered Suzuki motorbike, military-style camouflage tops, three pairs of boots, a torchlight, a black face mask, and a sum of GH₵ 645.

Residents of Wangarakrom, who have been living in fear due to recent criminal incidents, expressed relief over the arrest. “We’ve been worried about these robberies. This arrest gives us some hope that security is improving,” said a local shopkeeper.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured the public that they will be arraigned before the court to face justice.

Police have also urged anyone with further information about the suspects or similar criminal activities to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
