President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Western Region that the long-awaited Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment project will be completed to benefit traders and residents.
During a visit to the project site as part of his “Thank You Tour” of the region, President Mahama stated that the government would engage with the contractor to establish a new timeline for completion.
He was accompanied by Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah.
“We are here to inspect and assess the status of the project,” President Mahama said.
“We will meet with the contractor and the Minister of Finance to discuss the way forward. Soon, the contractor, engineers, and workers will be back on site.”
The President’s tour also included a meeting with traditional rulers, where he acknowledged the crucial role of chiefs in governance and national development.
“Our chieftaincy institution remains the backbone of our governance and community leadership,” he noted.
“Chiefs have been custodians of peace, culture, and development. In the most challenging times, they have stood firm in safeguarding the integrity of our society.”
He further urged traditional leaders to actively participate in the ongoing constitutional review process to ensure that governance structures reflect Ghana’s rich traditions.
The President emphasized that traditional authorities should not remain symbolic figures but must play a more defined role in national decision-making.
Meanwhile, market women at Takoradi Market Circle appealed to President Mahama to expedite the project’s completion, highlighting the economic challenges they face due to the delay.
The Western Region, known as a significant contributor to Ghana’s economy through resources like gold, cocoa, oil, and timber, continues to play a pivotal role in the country’s development.
