A gang of armed robbers on Saturday stormed a gold dealership shop at Mpohor in the Western Region, attacked the shop attendants and made away with 100 pounds of gold and GH¢80,000 cash.

The violent attack occurred at about 7:30 pm. The robbers, who were heavily armed, ambushed the gold dealers and gave several warning shots.

According to sources, one of the gold dealers was shot in the thigh and was later rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Managers of the shop — Paa Nyame Gold Shop — in a statement, confirmed the robbery and indicated that it has been reported to the police, who have launched investigation.

Residents of Mpohor say they are now living in fear following the alleged attack. They said it was pathetic that now armed robbers can operate so freely in the community.

Many of them indicated that the robbery has shattered their sense of safety in what was once a quiet mining town.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the robbery obtained by Takoradi-based Connect FM, showed five masked men — one wielding an assault rifle, another clutching a pistol — on the terrified victims.

The robbers were seen ripping open various storage closets as they scoop up cash and what was later confirmed to be about 100 pounds of gold.

One of the robbers repeatedly struck one of the shop attendants with the blunt side of a machete to intimidate him.

Meanwhile, three young men, believed to be staff of the shop, were held hostage at gunpoint and were lying prostrate on the floor.

The 15 minutes-long footage later showed the alleged robbers leaving with their booty after ransacking the gold-buying shop.

The managers of the shop are urging anyone with information to come forward, and promised to offer a reward for leads that could result in the capture of the gang.

It would be recalled that on July 30, 2025, similar incident happened in the Ellembelle District when armed men stormed a gold-buying shop at Teleku-Bokazo and attacked the attendants with guns and machete.

In that incident, one suspect was gunned down and another arrested, but several accomplices remain at large.
