The Western Central Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended eleven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities along the Bonsa river bank in the Western Region.
The arrests took place on 31st March 2025, following extensive intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing illegal mining in the area.
Among those arrested were seven Ghanaians and four Chinese nationals.
Five of the suspects, including Wei Qinwei, Yao Yongji, Nsoh Oto Aka Agologo, Kwadwo George AKA Sergio, and Emmanuel Van AKA Atta, were apprehended at a mining site in Bonsa.
The remaining six suspects—Nuang Shichuan, Huang Xinbao, Douglas Ayambilla, Elvis Aborta, Michael Tettey Komlorm, and Ibrahim Dauda—were arrested in the Wassa Agona area.
All the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be presented before the court to face charges related to their involvement in illegal mining activities.
