Seven individuals accused of illegal mining activities have been remanded into prison custody after appearing before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi.
The accused — Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto (alias Agorogo), Kwadwo George (alias Sergio), and Emmanuel Van (alias Atta) — were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and undertaking mining activities without a license.
The court has scheduled their next appearance for April 17, 2025.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, a practice that continues to harm the environment and the economy.
In a separate development, two Chinese nationals, Huan Ciongjian (38) and Ling Yong (56), were arrested for engaging in illegal mining activities along the Bonsa River banks.
These foreign nationals have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further processing.
