Seven individuals were rounded up after a high-impact narcotics raid in Efiekuma, a suburb of Takoradi, with three identified gang leaders currently in Narcotics custody assisting investigators to trace the source of their drug supply.
In the possession of the suspects were various illicit substances, including Hashish — a highly potent form of cannabis — as well as cannabis in its raw form, cannabis gums and toffees, bottles of codeine, and the substance known locally as “Red.”
The dawn operation, carried out on Saturday, May 3, was executed by a special team from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) headquarters in Accra. Acting on credible intelligence, the officers stormed suspected drug dens in a coordinated raid that took residents by surprise.
The exercise, part of NACOC’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, yielded significant results as authorities uncovered a network of drug activity believed to be connected to a broader distribution ring targeting urban and semi-urban areas.
“This is a major breakthrough,” a source within the Commission said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Our goal is not only to arrest but to dismantle these networks entirely. The three leaders are providing crucial information, and we expect more arrests in the coming days.”
Local authorities and community leaders had previously raised concerns about rising criminal activity and suspected drug abuse in Efiekuma, prompting the intensified surveillance and eventual raid.
The seized substances are being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigations, while NACOC officials work to establish connections between the suspects and potential suppliers.
