Residents of Wassa Akyempim in the Wassa East district of Western region have appealed to Golden Star Wassa mining Limited to renovate the Wassa Akyempim police station.
The miserable condition of Wassa Akyempim police station has awoken the residents of Wassa Akyempim in the Wassa East district of Western region to call on the mining company in the area for its urgent renovation.
According to a spokesperson for the residents, Nana Anokye, the Wassa Akyempim police station provides security for about 10 communities in the area.
Meanwhile, the last time the police station saw renovation was far back in 2011 and has been in a bad condition since then.
Aside not being renovated, there is also no accommodation for police officers and this according to the residents hinders effective work from the officers.
Nana Anokye also indicated that, the “Golden Star Wassa mining Limited which is supposed to ensure a routine renovation of the police station as part of their cooperate social responsibilities have failed to do so.
Hence they are appealing to the mining company to exercise their social responsibilities.
Residents of Wassa Akyempim who are disgusted about the state of the police station and the aloof attitude of Golden Star Wassa mining Limited towards the up-keeping of the police station are calling on authorities of the company to at least renovate the police station.
They added that the mining company should give the police station a new look government is not ready to renovate the place.
