The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed receiving an additional GHS35 million from the Ministry of Education (MoE) to facilitate the processing and release of the 2024 WASSCE results.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 27, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, disclosed that the funds were received on December 25, enabling the Council to complete scanning objective answer cards and finalising the results.

He assured stakeholders that WAEC is working round the clock to ensure the results are released by the end of December.

The confirmation follows a public exchange between WAEC and the Ministry regarding funding timelines.

Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, had assured journalists on December 24 that the results would be released by December 29.

He cited ongoing efforts by WAEC to finalise the marking process.

However, WAEC initially refuted claims of receiving GHS25 million for operational activities and questioned the feasibility of the December 29 timeline, citing financial constraints.

In a clarification on December 26, the Ministry revealed that WAEC had acknowledged receipt of GHS25 million on December 20 and subsequently requested an additional GHS35 million, which was honoured. This was to expedite the processing of results for the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates.

While expressing gratitude for the recent disbursement, WAEC has appealed to the Ministry to release outstanding balances to meet financial obligations, including payments to supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials.

“The Council wishes all its stakeholders the best of the season and assures them of its commitment to the execution of its mandate despite the challenges,” the statement added.

WAEC remains dedicated to releasing the results as scheduled, upholding its reputation for delivering timely and reliable assessments.
