The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cautioned heads of schools and various institutions planning to engage in mass cheating in the 2024 WASSCE.
In a statement released on Monday, August 19, 2024, WAEC disclosed that it has uncovered through its intelligence that candidates in some parts of the country are being charged sums of money between Gh₵200.00 and Gh₵500.00 in order to receive assistance from invigilators.
WAEC also revealed that supervisors at some centres are also planning to assign teachers to invigilate subjects
they teach while some schools have registered persons who are not their students.
In view of this, the council noted that “all Heads of School, Supervisors and Invigilators are cautioned to desist from this practice as all those involved will be dealt with according to the rules and regulations of the examination. The Council will not hesitate to nullify the entries of such candidates and those who manage
to sneak in will have their entire results cancelled if found out”, WAEC said in the statement.
Additionally, the council noted that examination centres that do not comply with the rules governing the
examination will be relocated to WAEC designated centres.
WAEC commenced the administration of practical and theory papers for the West African Senior
School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2024 on Monday, August 19, 2024. This follows the administration of the Visual Art Project work from August 5 to 16, 2024 with the examination expected to end on Friday, September 20, 2024.
A total of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 males and 247,657 females drawn from 1,003 schools have registered for the examination.
WAEC has therefore assured all stakeholders and members of the public that all the necessary test security measures have been put in place to ensure that the examination is conducted successfully and also called on supervisors and invigilators in safeguarding the integrity of the examination.
