The Walewale Municipal hospital has been compelled to discharge a 30-year-old suspected thief, Sambor Umar whose family have refused to take responsibility for his care.
Relatives of Umar are said to have ignored repeated phone calls from the hospital for a week after staff of the health facility managed to resuscitate the suspected thief who was unconscious when he was admitted.
According to reports, the refusal of the family to take responsibility for Umar’s continued care stemmed from a previous incident where his elder brother had to stand as surety for him in a separate theft case.
Umar is said to have been admitted with serious machete injuries following an assault in Wulugu in the North East Region, where he was caught for attempted theft.
