A manhunt for one of Ghana’s most notorious armed robbery suspects has come to an end following his arrest in Togo and extradition to Ghana.
The suspect, Adina Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, also known as Mohammed Djandjo, was arrested by Togolese security forces on January 30, 2025, after a Red Notice was issued by INTERPOL at the request of Ghanaian authorities.
He was handed over to the Ghana Police Service on May 12, 2025, in line with a regional cooperation agreement signed in 2003.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed the arrest at a press briefing in Accra on Saturday, describing Moudjibou as the mastermind behind a string of violent robberies in some of Accra’s most affluent neighbourhoods between 2022 and 2024.
She said the suspect and his accomplices primarily targeted residents in East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Adjiringano, and the Airport Residential Area — areas known for their concentration of high-profile individuals.
“His operations were well-coordinated and often captured on CCTV footage, many of which were widely shared on social media,” DCOP Donkor revealed.
Investigations also uncovered that Moudjibou held both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents, raising questions about his cross-border activities and ability to evade capture.
Police intelligence suggested he fled Ghana in 2023 after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Adabraka District Court on September 5 that year.
His accomplice, Alidu Marzouk, also known as Rashid Bawa, was arrested in Ghana in September 2024 during one of their operations.
“After confirming that the suspect was hiding in Togo, INTERPOL Accra formally sought assistance from INTERPOL Lomé. That collaboration proved successful,” DCOP Donkor said.
She added that a five-member delegation from Ghana, led by herself, traveled to Lomé on May 14, 2025, aboard a military aircraft to take custody of Moudjibou after the necessary legal procedures had been completed.
“Thanks to sustained intelligence work and cooperation with our Togolese counterparts, we were able to bring the suspect back to Ghana to face justice,” she stated.
The suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Police say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the robbery syndicate.
