President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has called on disqualified GFA presidential aspirant George Afriyie to smoke a peace pipe with the FA following his disqualification.
Mr. Okraku said this after he secured a second term in office to lead the GFA during their congress in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
He disclosed that he had held talks with him before the elections and promised to bring him to the FA so he could contribute his quota to the development of Ghanaian football.
“Two days ago, I had a meeting with my colleague, George Afriyie. I have just one message for him. We can only build the Ghanaian game when we stay together.
“Football cake is a very big one and everybody including my brother George, has a role to play. I will reach out to George, and I will bring him back home so George, wherever you are, we are one,” he stated.
The Election Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) disqualified former Vice President of the GFA, George Afriyie, from contesting in this year’s GFA presidential seat.
This, according to the committee, was a result of his inability to meet the requirements set out in order to be legible.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Afriyie, signed by the chairman of the GFA elections committee, Esq. Joseph Bernard Ashalley, it was indicated that the vetting process of the former Vice President was not successful, as he failed to provide the required number of GFA members to support his candidature and also failed to meet the requirements to contest the election for the position of GFA President due to having the support of four GFA members after Jeffrey Asare’s endorsement was rendered invalid.
