The former Deputy of Defense, Major Derrick Oduro has stated that government must be changed on legal means by conducting democratic elections to elect a new leader.

The former MP for the Nkoranza constituency’s comments comes some few days after the senior lecturer at the University of Ghana department of Law; Professor Raymond Atuguba made some serious comments that, Ghana could experience a hefty coup d’état due to the unbearable hardships the Ghanaian people are experiencing.

According to the retired military major, there is no point in entertaining such comments from anyone.

He said, if anyone wants to talk about the hardships in the country, such persons should rather chastise and advise the government to implement good policies in order to be reelected but not to prepare anyone’s mind for Coup D’etat.

“All those talking about coup should have criticized the government to do the needful and change the fortunes of the people but not to sing coup songs; because, in Ghana; we change government by election and not coup”, he said.

Speaking on Nkawkaw – based Agoo FM on Thursday, March 3, 2022, he admonished that the constitution of the republic frowns on coup and that there shall be no coup.

According to him, it is not advisable for people to go on that tangent because when the coup takes center stage, the country will at large suffer.

“When coup happens, what are we going to see? Economic implications, unemployment, social challenges and so on” he added.
