A group calling itself Democracy Hub which intends to demonstrate at the Jubilee House for 3 days have indicated that the Ghana Police Service has not served them any notice of seeking a court order to stop the planned protest.

This was contained in a statement by the group after the Ghana Police Service released a statement of filing an application to stop the unlawful exercise.

“Our attention has been drawn to a last-minute press statement released by the Ghana Police Service claiming that they have filed an application to prohibit the lawful exercise of our rights to demonstrate. We wish to put it on record that the Ghana Police Service has not served us with any application, and we are unaware of what exactly the police application is about”, the group said.

According to the group, they have constantly engaged with the Police who kept up the ruse and made them believe they would respect the law and fulfil their obligations under the Public Order Act.

The group further noted that it is therefore deeply disappointed in the Police for disrupting the peaceful and democratic mobilization for its upcoming Occupy “Julorbi House picket”.

The group has therefore called on its followers to disregard any statement from the Police.

“We invite the general public to disregard a statement which is riddled with misinformation. Our Picket will proceed as planned. We invite the general public to assemble at the 37 Trotro station from 6:30am tomorrow for onward march to the Julorbi House”, the statement emphasized.

Democracy Hub, in the past weeks, has accused the government of mismanaging the economy and demanded better relief packages for the suffering Ghanaians.

The demonstration coincides with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, which is to be observed throughout the country.

On Tuesday, September 19, the organizers of the protest held a press conference to inform their members of the measures put in place to make the protest a success without any hitches.

They assured that all the necessary logistical arrangements have been put in place for protesters who would want to sleep over at the Jubilee House during the three-day period, including mattresses, tents, and mosquito nets.

The demonstration is expected to start on Thursday, September 21 through to Saturday, September 23, 2023
