National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has advised party members to refrain from fighting for positions in the next Mahama government if they win the 2024 general elections.
This comes after Mr. Asiedu Nketia revealed that some party officials have already decided on which position they want to hold.
Speaking during the formal presentation of Professor Opoku Agyemang as the running mate of John Dramani Mahama at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday, April 24, he urged those engaged in such internal disputes, to be cautious.
He emphasized that such behaviour reflects complacency, warning them that though polls conducted by certain groups favour them, it does not signify victory.
“The poll’s figures tend to create a picture that we have already won. I’d like to caution everybody that we have not won yet. We are on our way to victory but let’s guard against complacency,” he said.
“Because we are already convinced that we are there, a lot of people have begun taking positions and fighting over who will be what in the next government. Indeed, some people are not only fighting about the position they will occupy, they are telling all others that they will be the kingmakers and they will be making the appointments.
“If we’re not careful, this will dampen the enthusiasm and the spirit of our followers. So, I want to assure everybody that we’re not there yet. Don’t be fighting over positions and don’t be struggling about who will make appointments. Let us all go for the hunting first, and when we kill the game, we now argue about how to share the meat.”
