The Eastern Regional Manager for the National Communication Authority, Tony Osei – Adjei has said that the sector is likely to amend the procedure involved in the ongoing sim card re–registration exercise provided majority is not captured by March, 2022.
In an exclusive interview on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 on Republic FM’s ‘Anopa Dawuro’ with Kwame Koranteng, the Communication Expert urged Ghanaians to do their very best possible to complete phase one of the process as there is ample time for the biometric stage to climax the exercise.
“Inasmuch as we work with humans, we will be left with no choice but to review the process involved in the exercise if the need be”, he reiterated.
Pursuant to the time allocated to Ghanaians to fully avail themselves for the exercise, Mr. Osei – Adjei, however used Republic FM as a platform to send a word of caution to Ghanaians to avoid being adamant. Instead, make good use of the opportunity today as individuals who refuse to comply would be scrapped from all network providers across the country effective March, 2022.
Purposely, the sim card re–registration exercise, a policy implemented by the National Communication Authority was to address the constraints of disappointments that technology has brought.
The exercise was designed to commence on October 1, 2021 and end in March, 2022. Ghanaians in remote areas have recently complained bitterly about the difficulties they go through in accessing telecommunication operators for their biometric vitals to be taken.
“It’s the reason for our movement from online registration to offline registration. No network or signal is needed for the offline registration. We also hope to provide mobile money vendors and agents with the equipment needed for the registration. There will be no need for individuals in these remote areas to travel to the cities”.
