The manager of award-winning dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, Chief Stylz, has revealed that they paid the National Sports Authority (NSA) over GHS 70,000 to use the Accra Sports Stadium for their December Concert.
This follows the NSA’s decision to make the stadium available in December 2023 for rent for social events, stopping Premier League clubs from using the venue during that period.
During a Public Accounts Committee sitting on Monday, Director General of the NSA, Peter Twumasi, who appeared before the committee, noted that the dancehall and reggae artist paid GH₵70,000 for the stadium.
However, contrary to what was disclosed at the PAC sitting, Chief Stylz, manager of Stonebwoy, has said they paid more than what was revealed at the PAC meeting.
“To be very honest with you, these are contractual matters and usually I wouldn’t want to engage in a public space but the Public Accounts Committee is a very serious committee that , it got before the committee so I wouldn’t want to be here on radio to state otherwise.
“But what I can tell you clearly is that I was delegated by Stonebwoy to lead the charge in terms of doing the negotiations and payment of the stadium. I can also tell you for a fact that yes we paid more than GH₵70,000 for the stadium but I mean I am just watching the issues unfold so I wouldn’t want to disclose into detail for now. I hope you bear with me,” he told Accra-based Hitz FM.
The NSA has come under a lot of criticism for renting out the stadium for social events, which usually leaves the pitch in bad shape.
Meanwhile, Mr. Twumasi defended the decision of the Sports Authority to rent out the stadium for concerts.
