The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has outlined some precautionary measures to be adhered to stay away from contracting diseases from the recent dusty environment.
According to the agency in a statement dated February 6, 2024, citizens should cultivate the habit of wearing nose masks, and avoid engaging in activities that pollute the air.
“Use pollution mask where necessary, desist from open burning of waste and other materials, sprinkle water on dusty surfaces before sweeping to reduce dust emissions and vehicles users should reduce speeding untarred roads to reduce dust emissions”, portion of the release read.
EPA further emphasized that citizens should debunk claims circulating on social media alleging that, there is an extreme air pollution event with severe health implications.
“The EPA categorically denies issuing any such communication. The public is strongly advised to disregard the aforementioned social media post”, the agency clarified.
After Ghana was ranked as the most polluted country by the Air Quality Index, the Head of the Central Analysis and Forecasting Unit of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Felicity Ahianyo, advised citizens to wear nose masks to stay away from contracting diseases from the recent dusty environment.
“You can even see the dust settling on cars, buildings, and any other thing, so it becomes very visible to us, and since it is coming from the bare floor, it will definitely have some pathogens, parasites, or disease-causing agents that may be dangerous to our health”, she said.
